The idea of completing an Ironman has been on my bucket list for a while. My decision to do it at this time in my life though was not motivated by personal ambition, but by the story of my friend Filippo.
Filippo is running his second Ironman to fundraise for the Associazione Italiana per la Lotta al Neuroblastoma (Italian Association against Neuroblastoma). Two years ago he raised more than €80.000 for his daughter Guia and many other children affected by this condition. He’s now going to do the same, and even more, again – and I will help him achieve this!
His inspirational story is worth a read, click here: Filippo Minuto, and I am eager to share it, as well as raise money for all these children that really need our support.
In addition, I would like to support another charitable cause that I feel very close to my heart, that of the Movember Foundation. The cause may be familiar to you, conjuring images of the unsightly moustaches (my own included) that grow during the month of November.
However, this charity operates all year round to tackle men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention, which sadly affect all of us and our loved ones in one way or another. The Movember Foundation has a very concrete approach to improving men’s health, and you can browse through their website to get an idea of their work.
To put the fun in fundraising (see what I did there ey?) I have decided to emulate Filippo in his betting system. You get to keep your money for now, and instead you place a bet based on the result you expect from me. You can get a feeling of what different results mean by having a look at the IRONMAN section on this website as well as the standard donations options if you click on the Donate button below.
When the race is complete, you will receive an email with my result and, if that matches your bet, two links to donate directly to the charities. I would encourage you to split your donation equally between the two charities; both are incredibly important causes and deserve our support.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you very much in advance for your trust and help!!!
